C1910 Stunning Jugendstil Nouveau Secessionist Rectangular Brass Box

£450.00

Circa 1910 Jugendstil Nouveau Secessionist rectangular brass jewellery box on bun feet designed by the celebrated Carl Deffner from Germany.

It has a stylish impressed stylised foliate hinged cover with plain sides. It also has a cedar lined interior. There is an impressed stamp ‘CDE’ on the reverse. The box is in good vintage condition with general wear to surfaces. One of the bun feet is repaired or replaced. Overall, it’s a stunning yet practical piece.

CARL DEFFNER

Carl Deffner, was born in 1856 and took over management of his father's metalware factory in 1900. He was a highly successful designer during the Art Nouveau and Art Deco periods. He made decorative copper, brass and plated tableware. The factory closed in 1959.
